Electromagnetic Yokes

An electromagnetic yoke is a very common piece of equipment that is used to establish a magnetic field. It is basically made by wrapping an electrical coil around a piece of soft ferromagnetic steel.

The JAYMI is the next generation of yoke from Johnson & Allen - Developed to be light weight but powerful, efficient and robust. Previously customers have had to compromise on either weight, durability or power when choosing a yoke. Overcoming these limitations was the design philosophy behind the JAYMI.

MY-2 Electromagnetic Yoke has powerful AC magnetising, adjustable poles and single handed operation.
It’s small size makes the MY-2 ideal for inspecting different geometries, welds, castings and on-site inspection/repairs, especially where there is limited access.
Encapsulated in a rugged rubber housing that makes it extremely durable.

The MY-2 offers a unique quick change of the two legs.
The MY-2 complies with BS EN ISO 9934-3:2002 and ASTM 1444-01.

The Johnson & Allen Yoke (JAY) has been a core product in our MPI equipment range for over two decades. Manufactured in-house the JAY has a proven track record for usability, durability and reliability. The core is encapsulated in a hard-wearing, impact and abrasion resistant polymer which makes the JAY one of the most heavy duty yokes on the NDT market. Like other Johnson & Allen yokes the JAY is fitted with a self-resetting thermal cut-out to prevent burnouts from misuse.

Manufactured in-house the JAYSON has a proven track record for usability, durability and reliability. The core is encapsulated in a hardwearing, impact and abrasion resistant polymer which makes the JAYSON hard wearing and the switch is positioned on the spine of the yoke to minimise the profile of the yoke. Like other Johnson & Allen yokes the JAYSON is fitted with a self-resetting thermal cut-out to prevent burnouts from misuse.

230V & 110V NDT Yoke

The JAY Bi-Volt is similar to our single Voltage JAY but gives the operator the choice of using either 230V or 110V mains supplies. Operators simply connect one of the two leads supplied and inspect as they would normally. The JAY Bi-Volt produces identical magnetic fields when supplied with the same voltage as the standard JAY.

The JAY Bi-Volt is ideal for operators who do contract work who cannot rely on a single type of mains supply being available in every premise they visit.

Using the market proven JAY and JAYSON yokes as a base, Johnson & Allen researched and developed ways of making them portable. Unwilling to retreat from this task and using DC yokes as an easy way out, Johnson & Allen sought a way of maintaining the sought after 'skin effect' created by AC yokes while still having the unit powered by a lightweight battery - The skin effect producing the highest levels of defect detection clarity for surface and near surface defects. The result was the 'AC-EAZY' Powerbelt; A tool-belt design that can convert 12V DC into 110V AC.

For increased comfort during long shifts we now supply every JAY-PAC with a padded shoulder strap as well.

YP-1000 will be your best choice when you do AC electro-magnet inspection where AC power is unavailable. It can be suitable to most of portable yokes in the market. So you do not need to purchase an extra AC yoke.
YP-100 do have low battery indicator and safety cut out circuit. Protection against overcharge, over temp, over current, deep discharge and short circuit.

Designed with Magnetic Particle Inspection in mind, the JAM is a lightweight and highly adjustable permanent magnet with four points of articulation; Two lateral and two rotational. This in combination with an angled feet design mean that the JAM can be manipulated into almost any position required by an operator for efficient inspection.
